The pupils of Third and Fourth Class thoroughly enjoyed Science Week. The theme this year was ‘Then, Today, Tomorrow’ and the pupils demonstrated many aspects of this across the week.
We had great fun learning about native Irish wildlife with Catherine Daly, heritage specialist and Science teacher. Catherine taught us about echolocation. This is how bats can locate things in the dark. The children took turns wearing a blindfold and trying to catch each other by listening to claps. We also got to see her animal specimens. Thanks to Catherine for visiting us once again.
Our young scientists demonstrated their own experiments in class and at assembly. We saw lava lamps, volcanoes and slingshots as well as seed dispersal, balloon inflation and floating oranges.
Our Science Dress-Up Day was another roaring success. The children (and their parents) made a fantastic effort and a wonderful day was had by all.
